Bonneville Speed Week - 5 Years of Race Cars 2009-2013

My first year out on the salt was 2009, and I went back to speed week every year for the next 5 years.  As an amateur photographer, I was completely blown away by landscape.  I'd never seen anything like it.  As a hot rod, race car and vintage auto/motorcycle enthusiast, well... what could possibly be better?  I always look forward to going back each year.

Here's a collection of some of my favorite shots from my first 5 years at Speed Week on the Bonneville Salt Flats.

This is an older picture of the Lefty's tanker, from 2009, I think.

And this is a more recent picture.

I don't know much about this car or these gentlemen, but I've always liked this shot a lot.  Kind of has an epic feel about it.

This is Paul Heady's car, and I've been lucky enough to have been on hand for at least one of the records he's set with it.

I was lucky enough to meet these guys on my first trip out to the Salt.  That's Don on the left, me in the black shirt, George on the right and Skip in the driver's seat.  If I've got my story straight, this car made it's last run the day after this photo was taken.  It went straight from here to the museum where it still is today.

George's little truck made for a perfect push car, even though it wasn't planned at all.

Ready, Skip?

This tanker blows me away.  I can't imagine having to steer using a mirror...
